Newcastle Red Bulls – Acrylic Honours Boards at Kingston Park

Newcastle Red Bulls, the rugby league club based at Kingston Park Stadium in Newcastle upon Tyne, came to us looking for a pair of honours boards that would sit comfortably in a modern stadium environment while still carrying the weight of a club record. The brief was clear. Two boards, matching, recording player numbers and names in clean columns, finished in the club's dark blue.
Rugby league clubs tend to favour the player-number tradition, and the Red Bulls wanted that history laid out so members and visitors could read across the squad at a glance. We designed and manufactured a pair of acrylic honours boards for the clubhouse, built around a printed Pantone 655C background and the club's own branding at the top of each panel.

Design Highlights
Each board was produced from 8mm clear acrylic at 800 × 1200mm, polished on the edges and finished as a flat-top panel rather than a traditional gable. The reverse was masked in dark blue vinyl printed to Pantone 655C, which gives the board its solid colour when viewed from the front and avoids the slight shift you sometimes get with a painted backing.
The header panel and club logo were digitally printed onto white PVC and applied to the face. Player numbers and names were then set out in two columns per board using matt white (M5701) self-adhesive vinyl, with the white-on-blue contrast giving the lettering its punch without feeling clinical. Dividing lines keep the columns honest.
Fixings matter on a stadium wall. We supplied each board with five 19mm chrome stand-off barrels, which lift the acrylic off the wall by a fingertip and throw a soft shadow behind the panel.
