Newcastle Red Bulls – Rugby Club Acrylic Honours Boards

Acrylic
Newcastle Red Bulls, based at Kingston Park Stadium in Newcastle upon Tyne, required two bespoke honours boards to record player achievements at their club. Rather than the traditional wooden format, the club opted for a contemporary acrylic solution — one that would sit cleanly in a modern stadium environment and reflect the club's distinctive navy and red identity. We designed and manufactured a pair of acrylic honours boards that bring together precise colour-matching, digitally printed graphics, and a layout built to display player numbers and names clearly for years to come.

Design Highlights
Both boards were produced from 8mm clear acrylic, each measuring 800 × 1200mm, with a flat top profile. Rather than a plain black or dark wood background, the club's colour was matched precisely: a Pantone 655C navy blue vinyl was applied to the reverse of the acrylic, creating a deep, consistent background that reads as a solid colour from the front.
All body lettering was produced in matt white (M5701) self-adhesive vinyl, applied directly to the face of the board. The two-column layout records Player Number alongside Name — a format common in rugby and football club honours boards, where squad numbers carry their own significance. White lettering against the deep navy background gives strong contrast and clean legibility at a distance.
The header and club logo panels were digitally printed onto white PVC and applied to the face of each board. Colours here included the club's white and red (Pantone 1935), ensuring the branding sits accurately alongside the navy field. Flags were also incorporated, digitally printed onto white high-tack vinyl with a matt laminate, giving a crisp finish that resists wear and glare.
Each board was mounted on five 19mm stand-off chrome fixings, lifting the acrylic fractionally from the wall and adding a subtle three-dimensional quality to the installation.
Summary
For rugby and sports clubs operating out of purpose-built stadium facilities, acrylic honours boards are often the right choice. They sit naturally in modern interiors, hold colour-matched branding with precision, and require very little maintenance compared with timber alternatives. The combination of a printed background, digitally reproduced crests, and vinyl lettering means the finished board looks designed — not assembled — and that impression holds up well in a professional club environment.
The Newcastle Red Bulls boards are a good example of how club colours and identity can be fully integrated into the design rather than applied as an afterthought. By specifying Pantone references for both the background and the printed header panels, the boards read as a coherent whole rather than a combination of separate elements.
