Bowls Club Honours Boards – Light Oak

Wooden
A bowls club came to us needing four large flat-top honours boards to record decades of competition winners across the green. Their existing display had run out of space, and the committee wanted a single coordinated set that would sit together on the clubhouse wall and read as one continuous record. Capacity was the priority. So was keeping the traditional clubhouse feel that members had grown up with.
We designed and manufactured a suite of four bowls club honours boards at 2060 × 1200mm each, finished in light oak with matt black lettering. The brief was straightforward in shape and demanding in detail: room for the past, room for the next thirty years, and a finish that wouldn't look out of place alongside the older fittings already in the room.

Materials, Size and Layout
Four boards. All the same size. Hung as a set.
Each board was built from light oak faced MDF with a 44mm solid oak frame, a combination we use often for larger formats because the engineered core stays flat across the span while the solid frame gives the edge the weight and depth members expect. The faces were finished in our Stain 2 light oak, a softer, paler tone that suits clubhouses with plenty of natural light and sits comfortably next to older timber fittings without trying to match them exactly.
At 2060 × 1200mm per board, the format gave us room to lay out long competition histories in clear columns without the text feeling cramped. Headings, dividing lines, dates and names were all produced in matt black cut vinyl and applied directly to the face. Matt black on light oak is, as you'd expect, one of the most legible pairings we offer, particularly across a wide board where members may be reading from the other side of the room. More on timber choice on our wood types page if you're weighing options.
Built to Be Updated Year After Year
For a bowls club, the honours board is a living record. New singles, pairs, triples and rinks winners go up every season, and the boards need to keep absorbing them without ever looking patched or uneven. We designed the four-board set with that in mind from the start.
Generous capacity was built into each column, so the club has years of headroom before any layout will need revisiting. When the time comes to add the next set of names, the club sends us the details, we produce the new vinyl lettering in the same font and weight, and it's applied straight onto the existing board. No reprinting, no replacement, no break in the visual flow. Each board was supplied with brass mirror fixings for secure wall mounting, which the club's own volunteers could handle without specialist tools.
The result is a coordinated wall of four boards that reads as a single record of the club's competitive history. Traditional in feel, practical in use, and ready for the next several decades of winners.
