KLS Martin – Corporate Acrylic Honour Boards

KLS Martin UK, the surgical instrument and medical technology specialist based in Reading, came to us with a clear brief. They wanted a set of internal honour boards for their offices that recognised long service and team achievement in a way that felt modern, professional, and unmistakably on-brand. Corporate honour boards are less common than the sports or school equivalents, but the thinking behind them is the same. People notice what a company chooses to put on the wall.

The team at KLS Martin wanted something that nodded to the company's identity rather than the traditional oak-and-gold approach. We designed and manufactured four matching acrylic honour boards, finished to suit a contemporary office environment and built to be updated easily as new names are added.

Design Highlights

Each board was produced from 8mm clear acrylic at a finished size of 600 × 1000mm, with the edges polished for a clean finish. A matt black vinyl backing was applied to the reverse of every panel, giving the boards a deep, even backdrop that sits well against a painted office wall.

All graphics were applied to the face. Matt white vinyl lettering was used for names, headings, and the dividing lines that separate each column, giving strong contrast against the black backing without the glare you can get from gloss finishes. The KLS Martin logo, with its distinctive red mark, was digitally printed onto vinyl, gloss laminated for protection, and precision cut before being applied to the top of each board. The combination of cut white text and a printed brand logo keeps everything sharp at close range and still readable from across the room.

For installation, the boards were supplied with six 19mm chrome stand-off fixings per panel. These give the acrylic honours boards a slight lift off the wall, casting a soft shadow and adding a 3D quality that suits a corporate setting. Four boards. One consistent look across the wall.

Summary

Corporate honour boards are a quieter category than sports or school work, but they do an important job. They mark long service, internal awards, leadership roles, and the milestones that often go uncelebrated in a working office. For a company like KLS Martin, whose work supports surgeons and clinicians around the world, having a visible record of the people behind the business matters more than it might first appear.

Acrylic was the right call here. It carries brand colour cleanly, sits comfortably in a modern interior, and avoids the formality of a traditional timber board, which would have felt out of step with the company's identity. It's also straightforward to update. New names are produced as additional cut vinyl and applied to the face, so the boards grow with the business rather than being replaced.
