Coastline Graphics – Bespoke Wooden Honours Board

Wooden
Coastline Graphics, based in Bury St Edmunds, came to us for a single bespoke wooden honours board to be supplied as part of a wider signage and display project. As a graphics company in their own right, they had a clear idea of the finish and feel they were after, and needed a board that would hold up to close scrutiny on the layout, the timber, and the lettering.
The brief was straightforward in outline. A traditional honours board, light oak, matt black lettering, sized at 900 × 1200mm. The detail, as ever, was in getting the proportions and the finish right. We designed and manufactured the board to their spec and delivered it ready to install at the end client's premises in Suffolk.

Design Highlights
The board was made from light oak faced MDF with a solid oak frame, a combination we use often where the customer wants the warmth of real timber on the surround but a stable, flat face that won't move with seasonal humidity. The MDF core keeps the panel true over the long term; the solid oak frame gives the board its weight and presence on the wall.
At 900mm wide by 1200mm tall, this is a portrait-format board with room for a substantial run of names. The oak was finished in a natural tone to keep the look light and contemporary rather than the darker, heavier appearance you might associate with older boards. For a graphics-led customer, that lighter finish reads as a deliberate choice.
Lettering was produced in matt black cut vinyl, applied directly to the face of the board. Matt black on light oak is one of the most legible pairings we work with, and it sits comfortably alongside printed graphics and signage without competing with them. For more on the trade-offs between finishes, see our notes on honours board lettering.
The board was fitted with brass mirror fixings on the reverse, which give a secure mount and allow the end customer to hang it without specialist tools.
Summary
Trade orders are a regular part of what we do. Sign-makers, graphics companies and interior fit-out firms come to us when a client of theirs wants a proper honours board and they'd rather work with a specialist manufacturer than try to put one together in-house. As you'd expect, the brief tends to arrive well defined: dimensions, material, lettering style, fixings. Our job is to produce the board cleanly to that spec and deliver it on time.
For this project, working with Coastline Graphics meant we could focus on the manufacturing side while they handled the relationship with the end client. The board was produced in-house, packed, and delivered to their shipping address in Bury St Edmunds ready to be passed on. A single board, but built to the same standard as any of the larger suites we supply.
If you'd like a sense of the range of work we produce, our wooden honours boards page covers the materials and formats most commonly specified, from compact single boards like this one through to multi-board installations for clubs and schools.
If you're a sign-maker or graphics company looking for a trade supplier of bespoke wooden honours boards, get in touch and we'll talk through your spec.
