Thorpe Willoughby Sports Association, based at Field Lane just outside Selby in North Yorkshire, wanted a proper record of cricketing achievement at the club. The existing wall in the pavilion had space for three new boards, and the committee had been collecting names and figures for years without a permanent home for them. They came to us looking for a set of gable-topped wooden honours boards that would sit together as a matched group and give batting, bowling, and club achievements the recognition they deserved.

We designed and manufactured a set of three cricket honours boards in light oak with matt black lettering, finished to the same specification so they would read as a single installation rather than three separate pieces.

Design Highlights
Each board was produced at 600 × 1500mm in a portrait gable-top format, which is the traditional shape for cricket pavilion boards and gives a slightly taller, more formal silhouette than a plain rectangle. The face was built from light oak faced MDF, framed with a solid oak surround to add depth and a touch of weight to the finish. For a project like this, light oak tends to suit older pavilions well, sitting comfortably against painted walls and existing timber without dominating the room.
Lettering was applied in matt black cut vinyl, which keeps the contrast sharp against the lighter oak ground and reads cleanly from across the room. The club's logo was digitally printed onto decal vinyl, precision cut to the outline of the crest, and applied to the top of each board within the gable. Columns were divided with fine ruled lines for date, name, figures, and opposition, which is the layout cricketers expect when they look up a five-wicket haul or a century.
The boards were supplied with brass mirror fixings for straightforward wall mounting by the club's own team. Capacity was planned in from the start, so there is plenty of room left for future seasons.
Summary
For cricket clubs in particular, honours boards do a quiet but important job. They turn a scorebook entry into something a player's family can come and see in twenty years' time. A 5 for 24 on a damp Saturday in May becomes a permanent record, sitting alongside the names of players the current side have probably never met. That continuity is the point, and it's why most cricket clubs eventually want their own set.

The committee sent us their lists of names and figures, we laid everything out across the three boards, and proofs went back and forth until the spacing and capacity looked right. The boards were then manufactured in-house and delivered together as a complete set ready for installation in the pavilion.
Year-on-year updates work the same way. When the season ends and new names need adding, the club send the details across and we produce matching vinyl lettering in the same font and finish, so the boards continue to look like one consistent set rather than something that has been patched over time.
