Thorpe Willoughby Sports Association – Cricket Honours Boards

Wooden
When a sports association commissions a new set of honours boards, the aim is rarely just to fill a blank wall. Thorpe Willoughby Sports Association, based near Selby in North Yorkshire, required three bespoke cricket honours boards to record the club's most valued performances and achievements — creating a display that would become a permanent part of the clubhouse at Field Lane.
We worked closely with the association to design and manufacture a set of boards that would reflect the club's identity, give proper prominence to individual and team milestones, and provide enough capacity to keep recording achievements well into the future. The result is a cohesive suite of three gable-topped boards, built to last and ready to be updated season after season.

Design Highlights
Each of the three boards was manufactured from light oak faced MDF with a solid oak frame, a combination that delivers both structural integrity and a warm, traditional finish well suited to a clubhouse environment. The gable-top profile gives each board a classic honours-board silhouette and ensures the club crest sits naturally at the apex.
All three boards were built to a consistent 600 × 1500 mm format, giving a generous column of space for names, dates, and performance details without overwhelming the wall. The tall, upright proportions are particularly effective for boards that need to accommodate a growing list of entries year on year.
Lettering and layout graphics were produced in matt black cut vinyl (IPM5708), applied directly to the face of each board. This finish provides sharp contrast against the light oak panel, keeping names and figures legible at a glance. Dividing lines and column headings were integrated into the same vinyl application, giving the layout a clean, structured appearance.
The club's logo was digitally printed onto decal vinyl, cut to shape, and applied to the face of each board — ensuring the association's identity is clearly present at the top of every display. Each board was fitted with brass mirror fixings for secure, professional wall mounting.
Summary
For sports associations and cricket clubs in particular, a well-made honours board carries real meaning. It connects current players to the performances of those who came before them and gives new members something concrete to aspire to. A consistent set of three boards — matched in material, size, and finish — reinforces that sense of club culture in a way that a single board rarely can.
This project is a good example of what wooden honours boards do best: they age well, sit naturally in a traditional clubhouse setting, and can be updated simply by adding new vinyl lettering without any need to replace the board itself. Light oak faced MDF with a solid oak frame is among the most popular specifications we produce, and it's easy to see why — the finish is robust, the appearance is timeless, and the boards will still look the part in twenty years' time.
We have produced honours boards for cricket clubs and sports associations right across the UK, from village grounds to county-level facilities, and the principles are always the same: accurate data, clear layout, durable materials, and a design that reflects the club's own identity. If you are planning a new set of boards for your club, we would be glad to help.
