The Lord Leycester - Masters Honours Board

Dark stained wooden honours board for The Lord Leycester with cream lettering and crest.

Wooden

The Lord Leycester in Warwick wanted a bespoke wooden honours board to commemorate the Masters of the Lord Leycester Hospital dating back to the 16th century. With centuries of heritage to preserve, the board needed to be both traditional in style and highly durable, while also presenting names and dates with clarity and dignity. Our team designed and produced a dark-stained wooden honours board with a framed surround, cream lettering, and the organisation’s crest digitally printed at the top.

Traditional Craftsmanship with Modern Detailing

The board was produced at 1200 × 500mm, sized to provide a balanced layout while maintaining space for names stretching back to 1571. The main panel was manufactured in a dark-stained oak veneer, chosen to highlight the grain of the timber and to provide a strong visual backdrop. A matching oak frame surrounds the panel, giving the board a distinguished, formal appearance suitable for a historic institution.

Lettering was produced in a cream vinyl, applied with precision to ensure legibility against the dark wood. The board includes over four centuries of names, carefully aligned into neat columns to preserve the readability of the text despite the large volume of information. The crest of The Lord Leycester was recreated digitally and printed in colour before being profile cut and applied to the head of the board, adding authenticity and reinforcing the identity of the institution.

Preserving Centuries of History

This honours board demonstrates how modern techniques can be used to protect and display historic records. By combining traditional stained oak with digital printing and vinyl application, we created a display that respects the heritage of the Lord Leycester while ensuring the finished piece is durable and easy to maintain.

For organisations with long histories, boards like this are essential for ensuring achievements and leadership are never forgotten. Our process included digitally setting out every entry for accuracy, preparing proofs for client approval, and producing a board that could be installed securely and stand the test of time. This project shows our ability to work with heritage clients, balancing respect for tradition with the precision of modern signmaking methods.
