Kent Constabulary Gallantry Awards – Wooden Police Honours Board

Wooden
Kent County Constabulary wanted a prestigious way to recognise the bravery and gallantry of its officers across many decades of service. To achieve this, we produced a wooden police honours board designed specifically to showcase official awards such as the George Medal, the Queen’s Gallantry Medal, and other commendations for bravery. This project reflects the importance of preserving police history and ensuring that the courage of officers is formally acknowledged in a permanent and professional display.

Board Design & Features
The board was manufactured from light oak faced MDF, chosen for its durability and natural appearance. It was cut with a rounded, curved top to give a distinguished finish. Measuring 745mm × 1220mm, the board provides ample space to list award recipients across different categories of gallantry recognition.
Lettering was produced from matt black PVC text, set at a precise cap height (height of the letters), ensuring clear readability of names and award dates. Black PVC border lines were added to divide sections, making the board easy to navigate even with large amounts of information.
The most distinctive feature is the inclusion of the Kent Police badge, supplied by the client and mounted at the top of the board. This crest adds authority and authenticity to the design, reminding viewers that this display is an official record of bravery within the force.
To secure the board safely to the wall, brass mirror brackets were used. These provide both a strong hold and a traditional fitting method that matches the heritage feel of the project.
Honouring Gallantry & Preserving History
The Kent Constabulary Gallantry Awards board now provides a lasting record of service and courage, bringing together awards such as the George Medal, the King’s Police Medal for Gallantry, the Queen’s Gallantry Medal, and the British Empire Medal. Each section lists the names of officers alongside the dates and circumstances of their recognition, ensuring that their acts of bravery are never forgotten.
This project highlights our expertise in creating bespoke wooden honours boards that balance tradition with precision. By working closely with the client, we were able to produce a display that reflects the professionalism of the police force while also providing the practicality of a long-lasting oak honours board. For police and emergency service clients, these projects carry additional significance as they demonstrate respect for service, sacrifice, and dedication to public safety.
