Durham University’s South College approached us to manufacture a series of wooden honours boards to celebrate achievement and leadership within the college. These honours boards are a popular choice across schools, colleges, and universities, as they provide a lasting and prestigious record of academic and community contributions. Working with South College, we produced several bespoke boards, each designed to reflect the values of the institution and to stand the test of time.

Board Design & Materials
The boards were produced from light oak veneer MDF, chosen for its strength, durability, and classic appearance. Each board was framed with a 44mm oak surround, giving a traditional and robust finish suited to the university’s formal environment. Depending on the award, the boards were built in different overall sizes, such as 1800 × 1200 mm, 1200 × 1200 mm, and 600 × 1200 mm.
Lettering was applied in matt black PVC text with a larger cap height to ensure clarity and legibility, even when viewed at a distance. Dividing lines were added to structure the layout, making it easy to follow the chronological order of names and dates. To further personalise the boards, we incorporated the South College crest as a digitally printed logo with a precision-cut decal. Each board was mounted using mirror bracket fixings, providing a secure and professional installation method.
Preserving Achievements
The honours boards produced for South College include titles such as “Principals,” “Order of Oswald,” and “Keeper of the Owl”, each recognising outstanding contribution and commitment to the college community. These displays not only acknowledge individual achievement but also create a tradition that will inspire future students.
As with all of our school honours boards, the designs are built with future updates in mind. Spaces are reserved for additional names, allowing the boards to evolve year by year without compromising the layout or quality. This forward-thinking approach ensures the boards remain useful and relevant for decades.
